911:" What's your Emergency?"
Child: "He is hurting mommy."
911: "Daddy's hitting mommy "
Mommy grabs the phone and tells 911 "Sorry, Daddy and I were playing. Junior didn't mean to call."
911: "Do you want us to send someone out?"
Mommy: "NO"
Phone goes Silent.
This ultimately happens more than you think. Physical abuse, Mental, Emotional strain are often covered up by denial, empty promises, and lying. Domestic abuse is hardly talked about in the news. Unless, you have a tragic set of events.
Next morning:
Junior got up for school, and walked into the kitchen. (Sees mommy crying): " What's wrong mommy?"
Mommy: " You should not have called 911. Last night!!"
Junior: "I don't understand "
Mommy: "Made Daddy very made!! What happens in this house, stays in this house!! Do you understand?"
Junior: "Yes, mommy "
Junior went to school confused as to why mommy didn't want him to tell anyone about what's going on.
That afternoon:
While Junior was at school. His teacher asked if he was alright.
Junior:" Yes, Ms. Burns. Everything is alright."
Ms. Burns: " You are quieter than usual."
Junior: " I'm ok. Ms. Burns."
She walked off shaking her head
Domestic violence affects children mentally and emotionally; children may not understand what is going on. Especially, when the parents asks not to repeat "What is happening in the house."
Junior makes it back home, after school. Mommy is waiting at the front door.
Mommy:" Daddy wants to see you Junior"
Junior: "Ok, mommy."
Silence
Junior walks into the kitchen and sees daddy sitting at the table: (the alcohol smell made Junior scared)
Junior:"yes, Daddy?"
Daddy slowly got up out the chair; looked squarely at Junior and punched him in the mouth.
Daddy screamed at him " DON'T YOU EVER FUCKING TOUCH THAT PHONE, EVER AGAIN!! THIS IS MY HOUSE AND WHAT I DO IS NO ONE'S BUSINESS!!"
Junior ran to his room screaming and crying.
Mommy ran in..
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ALL ABOUT!!"
Daddy: "WELL HE SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ON THE PHONE LAST NIGHT!!"(SMASHING HIS HAND ON THE TABLE) BY THE WAY BITCH, DON'T YOU EVER TELL ME HOW TO DISCIPLINE OUR CHILD. " (POINTS FINGER IN HER FACE)
Mommy ran up to Junior's room: Junior was already in bed; crying.
Mommy asked Junior if he was "Ok". He got up. ( Side of face was all red, with a busted lip)
In a state of disbelief, mommy couldn't believe Daddy did this to his own son.
In many cases child abuse intertwines with domestic abuse. Some cases are left unreported and undiagnosed until it's too late.
Next Day:
Junior gets up as usual. Goes into the kitchen and sees mommy.
Mommy: " Son, you get to stay home today."
Junior: "Why?"
(His face is bruised from last night episode)
Mommy: " You don't look good. I don't want the school to be asking questions."
Junior: "I'm not going to say anything, if you let me go."
Mommy: "NO! That's Final."
Junior throws his food in the floor; runs off to his room; crying and frustrated.
Mommy calls the school to let them know that Junior was not going to be there.
She explains to the principal that Junior got up sick.
Principal mentioned that he will let Ms. Burns know.
Before the principal hung up. "Do you want me to send Junior's homework over after school?"
Mommy:"No, we will get it tomorrow."
Principal: " Ok, we will see you tomorrow then."
She hangs up. Not noticing Daddy was standing in the kitchen doorway.
Daddy: "Who were talking to?"
Mommy: " Called Junior out of school. Cause of what you did last night. Just said he was sick, and left it at that."
Daddy: "UM, HMMM...You were told not to use the phone: Unless you ask!!. "(SHARP TONE)
Mommy: "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO; SEND JUNIOR TO SCHOOL WITH BRUISES?"
Daddy: (Stone look on his face)
Minutes Later.....
Junior comes out of his room; Asks if could go outside and play.
Daddy:" If you can't go to school, you can't go outside and play, And DON'T ASK AGAIN!!"
Mommy: " Why can't he go outside?"
Daddy: "ARE YOU QUESTIONING ME, AGAIN?"
(Infuriated, Daddy gets out his chair, and literally gets in mommy's face and pushes her to the floor.)
Daddy: "BITCH, YOU BETTER KNOW YOUR PLACE, AND DON'T EVER QUESTION ME AGAIN!! YOU HEAR ME!!"
Mommy: "Ye...Yes." (scared)
Meanwhile:
Junior is in his room: sitting on his bed with his favorite bear. Crying out of frustration; He rips his favorite bear into pieces.
In controlling situations: dominance and power are key factors.
Comes Dinner Time:
Mommy made everyones favorite meal. Beef roast with potatoes and a salad.
Daddy was in the living room watching TV and already had three beers and a shot of Jack. Junior is in his room; snuggled in bed.
Mommy calls for everyone that dinner is ready.
Daddy yells at her to bring him a plate. (Mommy makes him a plate and takes it in to him.)
Daddy takes one look and literally throws the plate into the floor.
Mommy screaming at him "YOU UNGRATEFUL BASTARD!!"
Daddy gets up out his chair. (With a closed fit) Punches Mommy in the mouth.
He walks off into the kitchen, takes one look at the food. Picks it up and throws it in the trash.
Tells Mommy to go Fuck herself and her food; she wasn't eating and neither was Junior.
Mommy was sitting on the floor (holding her face) crying. Daddy walks back in to the living room. That is what I think about dinner he said.
Later that Night:
While in bed, Mommy feeling frustrated and angry.
Snuck out of bed.
Walked quietly over to the dresser.
Opened up the bottom drawer. (Under a stack of papers was Daddy's 38 special revolver. )
So full of anger...she grabbed the pistol. Turned around, and not even two words. Mommy unloaded all six shots into her husband. If that wasn't enough. She loaded again, and unloaded another six shots.
Mommy goes off into the kitchen.
Picks up the phone...(Junior runs in)
Junior: "Mommy what's wrong?"
Mommy dials 911
911: "What's your Emergency?"
Mommy: (heavy breathing) I shot my husband
911: " Ma'am Is he still breathing?"
Mommy: "N..N..No" (feeling scared)
911: "Police have been notified. They should be on their way."
Mommy: " My son is here too"
911: "Is your son, Ok?"
Mommy: (Silence)...(softly speaking).."I'm sorry..I'm no good."
911: "Sorry for what? Ma'am?"
(Gun shots ring out....)
Mommy: (Heavy Breathing; thud to the floor)
911: "ma'am...you there? Ma'am?"
No Response.
Police finally show up. Minutes later. Not knowing; Not understanding the situation. Knocking and pounding on the door..
Dispatch tried calling the residence. (Busy signal)
Finally,
With no response. They busted open the door. Identifying themselves "Police department!! Show yourself!!" Through the living room and into the kitchen. (Gruesome discovery)
Mommy was on the floor holding the gun...and the phone off the hook. Shot to the head. (A few feet away) Junior had been shot three times.
Continuously searching the house.
The found the husband in bed. (Blood soaked) . Shot 12 times.
Not every domestic violence situation turns out this way. Every situation has different factors.
Domestic Violence doesn't always end this tragically. Children lose maybe one parent or other cases lose both parents, innocent people get hurt as well.
We need to help those with a lost voice in Domestic abuse.
